Neogen’s Real Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick

Hey all, sorry I haven’t posted in a quick bit. Spring break is coming up soon though so I will be able to be a little more consistent! Anyways, on to Neogen’s Real Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick.

To people who have never seen this cleanser before, it’s smaller than it looks (like all other korean products tbh)

Claims: Neogen is back at it again! This innovative cleanser is a soothing and calming product that cleanses your face of impurities all in a convenient stick form! Neogen’s website claims, “This magical cleansing stick glides on skin to cleanse away impurities and makeup while scrubbing off all trapped dead skin cells for cleaner and smoother skin… [It is] formulated with naturally derived ingredients with effective natural cleansing benefits. Further embedded with real crushed green tea leaves, experience the added benefits of soft exfoliation while the skin cleansing formula works to remove makeup, impurities, and dirt on the skin with a fresh and moisturizing finish.” Let’s see if and how it does this.

Ingredients: Ingredients! The single objective factor in deciding what products you would like to buy.

Glycerin, purified water, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, palmitic acid, stearic acid, lauryl betaine, betaine, camellia sinensis leaf(0.3%), camellia sinensis seed oil(0.1%), camellia japonica seed oil, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower)seed oil, limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, oenothera biennis (eveningprimrose) oil, tocopheryl acetate, citrus aurantifolia (lime) oil, ocimum basillicum (basil) oil, cananga odorata flower oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, origanum heracleoticum floweroil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange)peel oil, fragrance.

The main ingredient seems to be Glycerin which works to increase moisture as well as possibly helping acne, wrinkles, and fine lines. The second ingredient is sadly,  water. While it is purified water which is better than normal water which is full of minerals that are irritating to the skin, it is what you pay for. Lauryl betaine and Palmitic acid are the cleansing agents of the product as well as the emollients, making your skin soft and supple after a wash. Betaine may decrease the appearance of wrinkles for smoother skin and stearic acid is a hardener which gives the product it’s stick form. The last ingredient in the product is fragrance which is not preferred but because it is at the bottom of the ingredient list, its possible. Except with all those oils and extracts, I have no idea why you would need more fragrance. The oil and extracts are mostly moisturizing, some calming, and some brightening. The most effective oils are the Camellia Sinensis Leaf and seed oil, which is really just green tea extract in fancy scientific terms (of course it has calming properties that may help breakouts) Coconut Oil which is a popular moisturizer, and Evening Primrose Oil which is a fatty acid, essential for healthy skin. Good fats protect the skin from external forces and keeps it smooth and tight.

Overall, this is a great ingredient list and it’s assuring to know that there is a decent amount of green tea in this cleanser as marketed. Sometimes, products sell themselves as Snail, Gold, Green Tea, Some Variety of Fruit, and will contain little or nothing of the sort. Which leads us to wonder, what IS in it? This product is solid in terms of ingredients, nothing funky unless your skin does not do well with oils or fragrances.

Price: 80g

SokoGlam: $22 (not including shipping)

Amazon: $18.98 (including shipping)

It’s a little pricey for 80g but it is a dense stick that you do not need too much of it every time.

The top comes slightly indented but that’s to be expected. It is the same on the photos on Neogen’s website.

A swatch of ELF lipstick

I had to take some time to take photos so there is not a lot of lather. As you can see the makeup has slightly faded away.

The place where it looks like I scraped my hand is the remnants of the ELF lipstick. As you can see, it was not removed completely no matter how hard I tried.

 Run-Down:

Neogen is always coming up with innovative product delivery and great ingredients.  A stick cleanser is one of them. Convenient, fast, and great ingredients are the foundation for this product. Did this product wash my face? Yes, my face felt quite clean after using this product. Did it moisturize my skin? To some extent, yes it did (Although it left my skin feeling slightly tight. This went away after I put on my toner). Was it effective in removing makeup? This is definitely not a makeup remover, but it is a water-based cleanser which should come after your oil-based cleanser. I would say this does enough as a makeup remover if most of your makeup has been removed with the oil-based cleanser. The cleanser was not a miracle worker, it did not clear up my acne, did not fade my acne scars, and did not brighten my skin. If you’re looking for a simple cleanse that has a relaxing scent as well as some slightly soothing effects, this cleanser is great for you.

Pros and Cons:

PROS

  • Convenient for travel
  • Smells therapeutic
  • Lathers nicely
  • Good Ingredients
  • Cleans Adequately
  • No breakouts

CONS

  • Slightly tight feeling
  • A little unhygienic due to stick form
  • Fragrance
  • Underwhelming green tea effect

Who Should Use:

Since this cleanser was slightly tight on my skin, I would not recommend this cleanser for people with very dry skin. This would be a great cleanser for people with irritated oily to combo skin who love green tea. Although green tea is known to calm acne and soothe general skin blemishes, I would not count this as an acne treatment product of any sort although it will not hinder your journey to acne-free land.

I did not love this cleanser and it is not a holy grail. But if you love stick cleansers and you love green tea, there is no reason that I would recommend you not to purchase this cleanser. It’s just the price tag was a little steep for the effects that I found.
